More about DCT
DCT was created in 1997 with the intent to provide updated diabetes management and patient education and provide an arena for training East African health professionals in up-to-date diabetic care. It is the brain-child of founder Jean Suren KRN, BSc, CDE who has been a practicing Diabetes Clinical Specialist for the past 40 years, 20 of those in Kenya.
Stephen Muchiri, RN was the first beneficiary and is co-director, living in America. She has partnered with Dr L. Imbugwa Khasakhala who is an internal medicine specialist with a specialty in diabetes and a PhD in Psychology. Her team includes a clinical nutritionist, nurse educator and lay diabetes educators.
We have come a long way since then having treated over 3,500 patients and training over 5,500 health care professionals region wide. We have kept more patients out of the hospital by encouraging self-management of their condition. We emphasize a holistic approach to care which involves family in the management protocol.
